NICKELBACK FRONTMAN CHAD KROEGER SENTENCED FOR DRUNK DRIVING

Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger was sentenced  on Thursday (May 1st) to a one-year driving ban and a fine of $590 for drunk driving, stemming from an incident that occurred in 2006. The 33-year-old singer was stopped by police for speeding in his Lamborghini in the Vancouver, British Columbia's suburb of Surrey. At the time, a breath test revealed he had nearly twice the legal limit of alcohol in his system.

Upon his departure from the courthouse, the singer told reporters, "Everyone makes mistakes," although he does not condone drinking and driving. Although he received a relatively light sentence, his lawyer will appeal the conviction on the basis that police violated Kroeger's rights in the manner in which they took the breath test.

Nickelback's chart-topping All The Right Reasons remains in Billboard's Top 200 after 134 weeks and seven million units sold.

BEYONCE & JAY-Z RUMORED TO BE EXPECTING

Are newlyweds Beyonce and Jay-Z expecting a baby? Several media outlets, including the New York Daily News, are alleging that the reason the mysterious couple rushed to tie the knot in a hush-hush April 4th ceremony in New York City is actually because Beyonce is in the very early stages of pregnancy.

Insiders say that the quickie wedding was the result of Beyonce's "very strong religious beliefs." But the pop diva and her hip-hop mogul hubby have yet to even acknowledge their marriage, much less a baby on the way.
This wouldn't be the first "shotgun" wedding in the Knowles family. Beyonce's sister Solange was just 17 and pregnant when she was wed to college football star Daniel Smith in 2004. The pair has since divorced, and Solange is set to release her second CD, SolAngel And Hadley Street Dreams in August.
Other rumors concerning the couple have it that Beyonce is ready to retire from singing for a while to take on a role as an A&R scout for Jay-Z's new Carter Music Group label. The "Irreplaceable" singer has reportedly already received 82 music demos at her House of Dereon offices.

JORDIN SPARKS ASKS TEENS TO 'DO SOMETHING' THIS SUMMER

Teen singer Jordin Sparks has teamed with DoSomething.org and office products retailer Staples to create public service announcements asking teenagers to make a difference this summer. As part of the Do Something 101campaign, Sparks is encouraging teens to collect school supplies and drop them off at their nearest Staples store this July and August so that disadvantaged kids will have what they need for the new school year in September.

According to DoSomething.org, more than 11 million young people in the United States live below the poverty line, a fact that inspired the American Idol winner to participate. "Getting involved with the Do Something 101 campaign will help motivate teens to support youth in their communities," said Sparks. "There are so many kids in America that need school supplies, so we are making it easy to donate."
DoSomething.org is a non-profit organization that empowers teens to take action in their communities.
The PSA will begin airing on various TV and radio outlets this month.
Sparks says it was important to her to present a positive image with her self-titled debut CD, which was released last November: ["I definitely wanted to portray something that was good. I mean I'm in this position where people are constantly looking at me all the time and it's really crazy, so I wanted to be seen as a role model. And I feel like it kind of portrays that."  Sparks is expected to rejoin the current Alicia Keys tour after battling throat problems.
Meanwhile, her debut CD, Jordin Sparks, features the hit duet "No Air" with Chris Brown, which stands at Number Two on the pop singles radio chart.

WHITNEY HOUSTON'S DAUGHTER REPORTEDLY ATTEMPTS SUICIDE

Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown's 15-year-old daughter reportedly landed in an Atlanta psych ward after she tried to stab her mother during an argument, and then attempted suicide. A family member named Ann Davis told the National Enquirer that a few days before Bobbi Kristina's 15th birthday, the teen "tried to stab Whitney" but eventually turned the razor on herself.

Davis claims that part of Bobbi Kristina's problem is that she doesn't want to live with her mother. Houston and Brown are divorced.
